The Cleveland Guardians made it all the way to the ALCS last season, and the icing on the cake was the fact that they had the No. 1 pick in the 2024 MLB Draft as well.
They used it to select second baseman Travis Bazzana out of Oregon State.
After getting off to a bit of a slow start in the minors, Bazzana has picked it up over the past few months and recently got a significant nod.
Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report recently released updated rankings of the top 10 prospects at each position, and he had Bazzana as the No. 1 second base prospect in baseball.
“Last year’s No. 1 overall pick, Travis Bazzana, made his Triple-A debut on Tuesday after hitting .256/.364/.426 with 20 extra-base hits in 51 games at the Double-A level. He could enter spring training next year as the favorite for the starting second base job,” Reuter wrote.
Daniel Schneeman was getting most of the time at second base for the Guardians this season, until Brayan Rocchio more recently.
Though they have done a nice job, the Guardians are likely eager for Bazzana to arrive.
He put up stunning numbers in college, and while he is still adjusting as a professional, he has the potential to be a cornerstone piece for the franchise.
It’s an exciting time to be a Guardians fan, as Bazzana isn’t the only big offensive prospect on his way up through the system.
The Cleveland offense didn’t perform in the first half, but it has picked it up in the second half.
Next year, there could be more help on the way.
