It’s been a tough stretch of games for the Cleveland Guardians.
After winning a series against the first-place Minnesota Twins, they had shrunk their deficit in the AL Central to just one game.
Unfortunately, they were unable to keep the momentum alive as they lost a weekend series to the New York Yankees and have now lost three straight to the Detroit Tigers.
They now sit 4.5 games out of first place and 2.5 games behind the Toronto Blue Jays for the final AL Wild Card.
Terry Francona, the team’s manager, commented on the recent tough stretch and how when it’s all over, we’re going to find out a lot about his young stars, as seen in the interview tweeted by Bally Sports Cleveland.
As the Guardians navigate this tough stretch, Terry Francona believes we're going to find out a lot about these young players who are doing something they've never done before.#ForTheLand pic.twitter.com/QQStaY8JVo

An Important Stretch
This is a big stretch of games for the Guardians, and Francona is correct that this stretch of games will ultimately tell us a lot about where these young players are at this point in their careers.
The Guardians are playing some sub-.500 teams right now, but they have been unable to get the job done against them.
They do have a stretch of games against the Chicago White Sox, Boston Red Sox, and Tampa Bay Rays to open the second half.
That should be a big set of games for them as well.
That will likely be where we find out whether the Guardians are for real or if they’ll go away by the trade deadline.
They’re in the thick of the race right now, but if they can’t get through that stretch of games, let alone this current stretch of games with their heads above water, then 2022 might not be the year for the Guardians.
