The Cleveland Guardians have been a mediocre squad in 2025 with a 47-49 record.
That’s a fact supported by stats and other circumstances.
However, they have an outside chance to turn things around and make it to the postseason again, even if their current record suggests they don’t belong.
Their next 15 games, through August 3, will be against teams below .500: the Athletics (whom they beat on Friday night), the Baltimore Orioles, the Kansas City Royals, the Colorado Rockies, and the Minnesota Twins.
By the time the trade deadline comes on July 31, they could be well over .500.
They are streaking and full of hope.
“The Guardians have won seven of eight since their 10-game skid. They’re 47-49 after tonight’s 8-6 win over the A’s,” Tim Stebbins, who covers the team for MLB.com, wrote on X.

According to Guardians Prospective, they are now in second place in their division.
“Cleveland Guardians jump back over both the Royals and Twins in the division, back into 2nd place as both teams lost tonight. They are currently just 4.0 games out of the wild card,” he posted on X.

What if the Guardians have one big second-half run in them?
This stretch of the season represents their golden chance to get back in the race for a Wild Card spot.
The division appears to be a pipe dream, with the Guards being 11 games behind.
However, there is a path for Cleveland to sneak into the playoffs via the Wild Card.
If they want to do that, they need to beat up on these mediocre teams, and they are off to a great start.
