It’s not a secret that the Cleveland Guardians don’t have the most stacked roster in the league by any means. However, it’s not nearly as bad as the critics feel, either.
That’s why, even though they’re not likely to add a lot of firepower in the offseason, manager Stephen Vogt is happy with the group he has. When asked about the Guardians’ roster, the reigning AL Manager of the Year shared his honest thoughts on the matter:
“When you look at the personnel that you have, we see it very differently than probably the outside world does. We know how good we are and we kind of like it when people count us out because we’re going to come prove you wrong. We’re all in this together, and we’re all in this to win in Cleveland. Our players know that. Our best player, Jose Ramirez, embodies that every single day, and you have to fall in line with the way he plays the game,” Vogt said.

Vogt was great at bringing out the best of the core he had. Of course, he messed up at times, just like everybody else, but he’s clearly connected to the players and knows how to push his buttons.
The Guardians are entering a crucial offseason right now. It could make or break the team for years to come.
Some believe they’re about to part ways with All-Star outfielder Steven Kwan. That’s hardly going to make them any better in terms of individual talent, but it might help them bring in the players they need to round out the roster.
More than that, the team will have plenty of young talent to help right out of the gate. Players like George Valera, Chase DeLauter, C.J. Kayfus, Parker Messick, Juan Brito, and maybe even former No. 1 pick Travis Bazzana should be in for big roles.
Of course, that’s not to say that they should only count on the youngsters to get the job done; that’s not fair. Still, this team might not be as far from contention as some might say.
