The Travis Bazzana experience has been everything the Cleveland Guardians hoped it would be, and manager Stephen Vogt is not shy about saying so.
Vogt offered a simple but telling assessment of his rookie second baseman’s continued growth at the plate.
“It’s just been steady eddy since he’s gotten here,” Vogt said.

Four words that say everything. There have been no prolonged slumps, no stretches where big league pitching exposed him, no moments where the stage appeared too big. Bazzana has simply shown up every single day and produced, which for a 23-year-old in his first taste of major league baseball is about as encouraging a sign as an organization can ask for.
The numbers through Sunday reflect exactly what Vogt is describing. Bazzana is now hitting .271 across 59 at-bats with a .411 on-base percentage, a .750 OPS and a 117 OPS+, meaning he has been 17 percent better than the average big league hitter since his call-up. He has drawn seven walks, stolen seven bases and driven in seven runs while maintaining the kind of consistent at-bat quality that has defined his game at every level he has played.
Brayan Rocchio already called him a future superstar. Vogt has been deliberate about protecting him in the lower half of the order while he continues to adjust.
Sunday’s series finale against Cincinnati was another example of that steadiness in action. He went 3-4 with no walks in a game where Cleveland scored 10 runs, contributing to a lineup that looked as balanced and dangerous as it has all season.
The Guardians knew what they were getting when they made Bazzana the first overall pick in the 2024 draft. What they perhaps did not know is how quickly he would make the jump and look completely at home doing it. Based on everything Vogt and the rest of the organization have seen so far, the answer has been right from the very first day he walked through the door at Progressive Field.
