For weeks, Cleveland Guardians manager Stephen Vogt has been connected to a move to the Seattle Mariners. Rumors have placed him on the West Coast, and the skipper has family ties to the area. It made sense on paper.
What he also has, however, is a contract with the Guardians and a commitment to develop a long-term plan on the team. That’s why he took advantage of the opportunity given to him to address the speculation in front of the media and decided to put the rumors to rest, announcing to the world that he will remain the man in charge in Cleveland.
“I’ll be in Cleveland,” Vogt said. “I’m here. I’m coming back,” Vogt said.

There you have it. There’s no room for speculation anymore. The message was loud and clear.
Vogt, the American League Manager of the Year in both 2024 and 2025, has slowly but steadily built a surging powerhouse in the junior circuit. It makes sense to see him commit to the city, the organization, the project, and fans all over town.
In three seasons at the helm and with one of the lowest payrolls in the league, Vogt has led the Guardians to three postseason berths, three AL Central titles, and two American League Championship Series. In two of his three campaigns in charge, he has taken Cleveland to the last four.
Perhaps more importantly, the synergy there is between Vogt and the front office is evident, and should be considered a long-term asset. The manager knows which young players to nurture and trust, and has given them a platform to develop and succeed. Chase DeLauter, Travis Bazzana, Parker Messick, Angel Martinez, Patrick Bailey, Cade Smith, Hunter Gaddis, Joey Cantillo, and Brayan Rocchio, among others, have broken out under Vogt and his style of leadership.
The Guardians are perfect for Vogt’s skill set, and Vogt is perfect for the Guardians. For now, a divorce makes no sense for any of the parties. As long as the results keep coming, the marriage will continue.
Seattle will have to wait.
