When it rains, it pours for the Cleveland Guardians.
Stephen Vogt’s team has struggled with injuries since before the start of the season, and things haven’t gotten much better throughout the course of the season.
They have a myriad of players still out with injuries, and, according to the manager, they will be without two more players for the long haul.
Apparently, Will Brennan and Andrew Walters will have to go under the knife, according to a report by MLB.com’s Tim Stebbins:
“Guardians outfielder Will Brennan and reliever Andrew Walters are each scheduled to undergo surgery on Monday, manager Stephen Vogt noted on Sunday. Brennan will undergo left elbow surgery with Dr. Keith Meister, and Walters will undergo right lat surgery with Dr. Anthony Romeo,” Stebbins wrote.
Of course, that leaves their availability for the remainder of the campaign hanging by a thread.
Walters will reportedly undergo surgery to repair his right lat, and shoulder injuries tend to be tricky.
He had been dealing with shoulder soreness since spring training, and the Guardians placed him on the minor league injured list due to right elbow inflammation.
He eventually got the nod and was called up for ‘The Show,’ but the right-handed hurler couldn’t get past his ailments.
In just his second outing of the season, he had to leave the game in the middle of an at-bat with some evident discomfort.
As for Brennan, he was placed on the 15-day Injured List after also reporting some discomfort in his left elbow.
The team didn’t offer any more updates regarding his condition or the extent of the injury, but now that he’ll undergo surgery, it’s safe to assume that he will be out for at least the next month.
