Even though the 2024 campaign hasn’t really ended, award season is upon us.
It’s time to recognize those whose talent, skill, and determination took them to the elite of their fields in 2024.
The Cleveland Guardians had a marvelous season, so it’s natural that they start getting some awards and recognition.
According to GuardsInsider, manager Stephen Vogt has won The Sporting News’ AL Manager of the Year award.
“Congrats to Stephen Vogt on becoming the fourth Cleveland Manager to be so honored. Joins Mike Hargrove (1995), Eric Wedge (2007) and Terry Francona (2016, ’17). José Ramírez (3B) & Emmanuel Clase (RP) also named AL @sportingnews All-Stars,” they posted on X.

Vogt took the Guards to a solid 92-69 record and made it all the way to the AL Championship Series.
“Stephen Vogt came to Cleveland in November with zero managerial experience and was tasked with replacing a man who managed the Indians/Guardians for 1,678 games and had 23 years of MLB experience, including two World Series rings. So how did the transition go from Terry Francona to Vogt? About as well as Guardians president of baseball operations Chris Antonetti could have hoped,” they wrote.
Per Sporting News, Vogt “quickly meshed with his new club, displaying the qualities that made him a popular teammate in his playing days. Clearly, the ability has carried over to his new role.”
Vogt became a players’ manager, often having their back and showing trust in them and their abilities.
His overall skillset translated nicely to the brand of baseball Cleveland intends to play.
Considering what he achieved and the resources available to do it, he was the clear choice for the award.
