For years, Cleveland Guardians fans wanted to see what George Valera was capable of.
The fans and the organization stood by him through thick and thin.
Ultimately, injuries forced the team’s hand to part ways with him, but he was so talented that they decided to keep him around.
And while it took way longer than they would’ve wanted, it ultimately paid off.
As shown by Sleeper Guardians on X, Valera didn’t need a lot of playing time to make a big impact.
In just 16 games, he posted a .220 average with a .748 OPS, two home runs, and five RBI.

On the downside, he posted a -0.1 WAR, but plenty of factors can impact that.
More importantly, Valera looked healthy for a full season.
The fact that Stephen Vogt trusted him to call him up in the most crucial stretch of the season and then kept him on the roster for their wild-card series vs. the Detroit Tigers speaks volumes about the team’s level of confidence in him.
The Guardians have rarely made big moves in the offseason, at least in terms of acquiring big names or breaking the bank in free agency.
This time, however, they may not need to do that.
They just need to keep trusting their young players like they did this season.
Valera will have some experience under his belt, and he might give this team the offensive punch they needed in the outfield all season long.
Hopefully, he will continue to stay healthy and grow.
