The Cleveland Guardians have lost five games in a row and eight of their past nine.
What looked like a solid late-season push may now be a failed attempt to make the playoffs.
Notably, even one of their best players has struggled.
As pointed out by Always the Jake on X, outfielder Steven Kwan is slashing .224/.250/.282 since the trade deadline.

The Guardians managed to weather the storm despite his struggles, and even when Jose Ramirez was also cold at the plate, the team looked strong and motivated.
Kwan hasn’t been his usual self for over a month now, and that hasn’t gone unnoticed.
The Guardians have been unsuccessful in their attempt to get him to sign a contract extension.
He was tangled up in trade rumors at the deadline, as reports stated that both parties were far apart in those talks.
Perhaps he’s not motivated, or he’s trying to force his way out.
He could be dealing with an injury, or maybe he’s just going through a slump.
Whatever the case, this will be a situation to monitor throughout the offseason.
He’s under team control through the 2027 season, so the team could pick up negotiations, or trade talks, this winter.
Hopefully, it won’t be long before he returns to his usual form.
