The Cleveland Guardians’ 2025 season swung between extremes, from a devastating 10-game losing streak before the All-Star break to an AL Central championship.
That stretch threatened to derail their progress, but the team refused to fold. Instead, they fought through adversity and claimed the division title once again.
For pitcher Slade Cecconi, the season meant more than statistics or wins. That unity carried Cleveland through the turbulence and into the postseason.
Despite the eventual playoff exit, he believes the season’s lessons will shape the franchise moving forward.
“The predominant feeling is devastating because everybody on this team rode the lows and the highs together. The lows and the highs this year were as extreme as you can create. For it to come to a halt this quick feels terrible, but with those feelings, you don’t want to lose what we did and what we accomplished from where we were. We did something that no team has done before in this league. I can’t thank the staff here for what they’ve done for me and for everyone else this year. We’re going to build on it,” Cecconi said, via Leah Doherty.

Cecconi credited the collective focus and resilience for making playoff baseball possible, acknowledging the journey required as much heart as talent.
The disappointment of an early exit remains fresh, but Cecconi emphasized what the Guardians achieved this year.
His numbers reflected real growth, posting a 1.19 WHIP that showed improved command and a 0.8 WAR that provided meaningful value.
Cleveland relied heavily on pitching depth, strong defense, and clutch hitting to navigate division rivalries and postseason pressure.
Cecconi appears positioned for a bigger role next season based on his development in both mechanics and mentality.
The takeaways from this rollercoaster season could define Cleveland’s trajectory in 2026 and beyond.
Historic accomplishments and playoff heartbreak both leave lasting marks, and the Guardians seem ready to build on both experiences as they push toward sustained contention.
