The Cleveland Guardians are struggling to consistently score runs these days.
They need offensive reinforcements if they want to make a similar run as the one they enjoyed in 2024.
Some of those are already in the organization: they need to give the Chase DeLauters, C.J. Kayfuses, and Juan Britos of their system a legitimate chance in the upcoming weeks.
Others, however, are out there, waiting to be had via trade.
MLB insider and former executive Jim Bowden wrote 20 things he’s currently hearing regarding the trade deadline, potential negotiations, what each team is targeting, and more.
He covered the Guardians in one of the items, saying that they are asking around and scanning the market for one specific position.
“Similar to recent years, the Guardians have been asking around about the availability of possible right-field upgrade options, hoping to improve the production in the middle of their lineup,” he wrote.
Nolan Jones, Will Brennan, Jhonkensy Noel, and others have tried to lock down that right field gig in Cleveland, with no luck.
Maybe the solution is DeLauter, or perhaps it’s a player who is still not on the Guardians’ roster.
Maybe it’s Ryan O’Hearn of the Baltimore Orioles or Taylor Ward of the Los Angeles Angels.
Maybe it’s a DH type like Marcell Ozuna or Brent Rooker.
The most important thing is the sense of urgency that president of baseball operations Chris Antonetti shows at the time of negotiating.
The Guardians need more than an aging veteran: they need a difference-maker in the outfield.
Will they be willing to part with the necessary prospects or absorb the salary to make it happen?
