The Cleveland Guardians ended a mini two-game skid on Saturday with a resounding 6-0 win over the Texas Rangers to maintain a two-game lead in the AL Central over the Chicago White Sox. Tanner Bibee was the star of the show as he pitched eight scoreless innings to finally pick up his first win of the season.
Bibee received five runs of support in the 4th and 5th innings to help him cruise to his best start of the year, and part of that offensive output came from Jose Ramirez, as it so often does. Ramirez cranked a solo homer to get the scoring started and also logged his 23rd stolen base of the season.
The homer and the steal put Ramirez into some rare company. He noted that Ramirez is just the third player in American League history to reach ten home runs and 23 steals through 66 games, joining Rickey Henderson (who did it three times, because of course he did) and Tommy Harper.
“José Ramírez has 10 HR & 23 SB thru CLE’s first 66 G. He’s just the third hitter in American League history to post those numbers or better in a team’s first 66 G.
• JOSÉ RAMÍREZ (2026)
• Rickey Henderson (1986-87, 1990)
• Tommy Harper (1970),” said Potosky.

Some of Ramirez’s overall numbers aren’t where fans are used to seeing them just yet as he is still hitting just .242, but he is on a good run at the moment and is still drawing more walks than strikeouts. He has played in every game and is on pace to destroy his career high of 44 steals, which he set last season.
The dinger also brought him just five home runs away from 300 for his career. He also now has a window to make a big run at that ever-elusive AL MVP award now that Aaron Judge is out for at least 4-6 weeks, so it would be fun if he could get that average up a bit more and keep hitting home runs.
This man seems to break some kind of record every other day and Guardians fans are lucky to have had the chance to watch his entire career. He is cooking right now and we all know what this team can do when Ramirez goes on a tear.
