One Guardians Player Is Quietly On An Incredible Run

The Cleveland Guardians fell back to .500 with a 12-8 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday and are three games back of the Chicago White Sox in the AL Central. The losses have been piling up of late, and most of that losing can be blamed on the offense.

Cleveland has scored one or zero runs in five of the last ten games and Saturday’s eight-run output was just the second time the Guardians scored more than seven runs since July 1st. Despite all the offensive futility, one All-Star is on a major tear and trying to get the rest of the lineup to follow suit.

Mason Horodyski of WEWS shared that despite Saturday’s loss, center fielder Steven Kwan extended his on-base streak to 19 games, which is the most by a Guardian in 2026.

Kwan’s resurgence has been a revelation because he looked dead and buried a month ago. It had been a full year of his bat being ice cold and it was fair to wonder if this was just who he was now, but this recent hot streak has completely flipped the switch and regained a lot of trust from the fans and the locker room.

Kwan was batting ninth for a while and on June 21st, he was hitting a paltry .206 with a .567 OPS. All it took was a smooth .390 batting average in July to get him back up to a solid .256 with a .672 OPS, which is much closer to what these fans have grown to expect from their perennial Gold Glove winner.

The issue now is that he has just one home run and eight stolen bases on the year, but if he is going to hit .390 for weeks at a time, no one is going to complain about the lack of power. He has great hitters behind him in Jose Ramirez, Travis Bazzana, and Chase DeLauter, and the three of them need to do a better job bringing Kwan home in the month of August to help reverse this trend of poor offensive production.
