The Cleveland Guardians entered this season fresh off a trip to the ALCS.
Now, they’re on the outside looking in of the playoff race, but they still have a chance.
With that in mind, MLB insider Buster Olney shared the updated odds for all teams still in the Wild Card race, according to Fangraphs.
As things stand now, the Guardians have a 10.3% chance.
They have the sixth-highest odds, trailing only the St. Louis Cardinals (23.4%), Minnesota Twins (22.6%), Texas Rangers (17.3%), Kansas City Royals (11.3%), and Cincinnati Reds (10.7%).
Playoff odds for some of the teams on the fringe of the wildcard races, per Fangraphs, as decisions are made about buying or selling:
Cardinals 23.4%
Twins 22.6%
Rangers 17.3%
Royals 11.3%
Reds 10.7%
Guardians 10.3%
D-Backs 8.7%
Angels 5%
Braves 4.4%
Orioles 2.7%— Buster Olney (@Buster_ESPN) July 13, 2025
Of course, plenty of that will change depending on whether some of those teams decide to be sellers at the trade deadline, including the Guardians.
It’s also worth noting that Stephen Vogt’s team will have a much more forgiving schedule after the All-Star break.
They played a big chunk of their first-half games against teams above .500, and they will face mostly struggling teams to close out the year.
They’re not likely to add a lot of firepower to their roster at the deadline, but if they stay put and don’t blow up the roster, they could still find a couple of feasible reinforcements in the minors.
Chase DeLauter has been crushing it at Columbus, so even though he’s currently dealing with a sore wrist, he’s a likely candidate to get the nod at some point.
The same goes for C.J. Kayfus, who’s been the most impressive and consistent player in their farm system this season.
It’s a long shot, but this team still has a chance to play deep into the season.
