Jose Ramirez isn’t only the best player on the Cleveland Guardians and one of the best in franchise history.
He’s also an example and an inspiration.
That’s why it’s not a surprise to see the third baseman take home the 2025 Heart and Hustle Award.
Might as well name the award after him at this point, @MLBPAA.

Notably, this is the seventh time that he’s earned this distinction, which is given by the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association.
Per MLB.com, the award is given to the active players who “exemplify a true passion for the game and who best embody the values, spirit and tradition of the game.”
It’s also worth noting that this is the only award that is determined by former players.
A committee of alumni designates the winner for each team, and a combination of alumni and fan votes later chooses the overall winner.
Ramirez continues to establish himself as one of the best and most respected players in the game.
He is one of just two American League players (with Aaron Judge) to bat .300 and have an OPS over .900 this season.
His impact on the Guardians goes way beyond what he does in the infield and at the plate, as he’s a true leader who exemplifies the type of player all MLB teams would love to have.
