The Cleveland Guardians are having quite the ho-hum offseason on the heels of consecutive AL Central crowns, but the fans did get some great news recently. The news of Jose Ramirez’s seven-year contract extension worth $175 million that ties him to the franchise through 2032 came out of nowhere, and the future Hall of Fame third baseman is now in a position to potentially spend his entire career with the Guardians.
Ramirez debuted in 2013 and is the last remaining member of Cleveland’s 2016 World Series team. With the team in a contention window now, the hope is that he can lead this franchise back to the Fall Classic by 2032 and get them over the hump the next time, which would only further cement his legendary status. Rafa Nieves of Republik Sports recently pointed out how rare it is for a player to spend this much time with one franchise.
He noted that if Ramirez plays out this extension through 2032, he’d join an extremely short list of players to log 20 seasons with one team.
“Only 19 players in history have played 20 seasons for 1 club. The only ones to do it in this century are Derek Jeter and Craig Biggio. Jose Ramirez will be the next,” Nieves posted on X.

Cleveland had no reservations about tacking on more guaranteed years to Ramirez’s deal, as he has shown no signs of slowing down whatsoever. He is coming off a stellar 2025 campaign that saw him hit 30 homers for a fourth time, while also stealing a career high 44 bags.
He is the anchor of this lineup and this franchise, and while it’s exciting to see him get taken care of, it’s time for the front office to spend some money elsewhere. The biggest contract the team has handed out this offseason was for Colin Holderman’s one-year, $1.5 million deal.
It’s clear that the youth movement is here, and guys like Chase DeLauter, C.J. Kayfus, and George Valera will be relied upon heavily to help capture another division title, but this lineup needs another proven bat or two to help protect Ramirez.
He has given everything to this franchise and this fan base, and hopefully, it all gets returned to him tenfold through 2032.
