Jose Ramirez continues to bail out the Cleveland Guardians.
The superstar infielder is already one of the greatest players in franchise history, and he’s aging like a fine wine.
That was evident again in the 4-2 win over the Athletics on Saturday, as he logged his 900th career RBI to join a very exclusive club, per Tim Stebbins:
“[Jose] Ramírez recorded his 900th career RBI on Saturday, in the Guardians’ 4-2 win over the A’s at Sutter Health Park, on a second-inning base hit. With that tally, he became just the fourth player to record 900 or more RBIs with Cleveland (since RBIs became an official stat in 1920), joining Earl Averill (1,084), Jim Thome (937) and Hal Trosky (911),” Stebbins wrote.
Ramirez has everything he needs to become the franchise’s all-time RBI leader once it’s all said and done.
He reached this milestone with an RBI that sparked a much-needed rally to seal the win.
The Guardians are in desperate need of some offensive momentum.
They’ve gone just 7-11 in June, and they’re averaging a league-worst 2.8 runs per game during that span.
They’ve scored four or fewer runs in 16 of those 18 games, and they’ve hit just .201.
Those numbers would obviously be much worse if you took Ramirez out of the equation.
Stephen Vogt’s team has struggled mightily with runners in scoring position.
But even when things look difficult and when it seems like there’s no way they will be able to score any runs, they can always trust Ramirez to make something happen and spark the offense with his timely hitting.
It would be a shame to see this impressive season go to waste and the Guardians fail to make the playoffs.
Hopefully, the front office will look to give him a helping hand by making a couple of moves at the trade deadline.
