Despite a late scare and the bullpen not being as good as usual, the Cleveland Guardians survived and earned a much-needed victory against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night, beating them 10-7 at PNC Park.
In the top of the seventh frame, the Guards were up 10-2, but the usually reliable trio of Tim Herrin, Jakob Junis, and Paul Sewald combined to surrender five runs and make things interesting in the end.
Still, Cleveland’s offensive output earlier in the game was magnificent, and they held on to get the much-needed victory.
Jose Ramirez was part of that offensive surge.
The third baseman had been scuffling as of late, but the signs of a turnaround were already there in the last two or three games.
On Friday, he went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and his fourth double of the season.
The two-bagger helped him cement his place in Guardians’ history.
“Jose Ramirez is now 5th all-time in club history with 368 doubles .. and tied with Tris Speaker for 2nd all-time in extra-base hits with 667,” Cleveland sports anchor Al Pawlowski posted on X.

We probably don’t need to tell you that Ramirez is an extra-base hit machine.
Just last season, he hit 39 doubles and 39 home runs.
However, it’s hard to really understand how historically relevant he has been for the Guardians.
To see his name right next to an all-time great such as Speaker is mind-blowing.
He will leave him behind in no time because Ramirez was born to leave a mark in Cleveland.
With each homer, double, RBI, or stolen base, he makes himself bigger in the eyes of Cleveland sports fans.
