The milestone moments keep coming for José Ramírez, and the latest one places him alongside one of the most important figures in Cleveland baseball history.
During Tuesday night’s 4-3 win over the Detroit Tigers, Ramírez drew a walk that tied Larry Doby for seventh place on the all-time franchise walks list at 703.
“With that walk, José Ramírez ties Larry Doby for the 7th most in Guardians franchise history at 703,” Hordoyski wrote.

The company Ramírez is keeping on that list is a who’s who of Cleveland baseball royalty. Jim Thome leads the franchise all-time with 1,008 walks. Carlos Santana sits second at 933. Tris Speaker is third at 857. Lou Boudreau is fourth at 766. Earl Averill is fifth at 725. Jack Graney holds sixth at 712. And now Ramírez has pulled even with Larry Doby at 703, with Andre Thornton at 685 and Joe Sewell at 654 rounding out the top ten.
Tying Larry Doby is not a small thing. Doby was a trailblazer in every sense of the word, a two-time All-Star with Cleveland and a key piece of the 1948 World Series championship team. His place in franchise history and American history is profound, and having his name in the same breath as Ramírez’s is a reflection of just how deep into the record books the 33-year-old third baseman has carved his legacy.
Ramírez is hitting .236 across 182 at-bats with eight home runs, 22 RBI, 20 stolen bases, a .367 on-base percentage and a .790 OPS. His 2.1 WAR already ranks among the best on the roster. His career totals now stand at 1,711 hits, 293 home runs, 971 RBI and 307 stolen bases across 6,152 at-bats, with a career .278 batting average, .353 on-base percentage and .855 OPS that reflect one of the most complete hitters the franchise has ever produced.
The record books have been good to Ramírez this season, from tying Lou Boudreau and then passing him on the all-time hits list to now pulling even with Larry Doby in walks. Each milestone is another reminder that what Cleveland has in Ramírez is not just a great player on a good team. He is a generational talent writing himself permanently into this franchise’s history one at-bat at a time.
