Earlier this season, Cleveland Guardians third baseman Jose Ramirez put on a show.
He homered three times against the Los Angeles Angels, showing that he is still a force to be reckoned with even at 32 years old.
Since that day, however, he has been in a power slump.
In the next 11 games, Ramirez is slashing .179/.244/.205 with a meager 17 wRC+.
He has just seven hits in 45 trips to the plate during that span, and only one of them has gone for extra bases, a double against the Baltimore Orioles.
If the Guardians’ offense wants to achieve a certain level of consistency and excellence, they need their best hitter to take a step forward and start hitting the ball out of the park with frequency.
These brief power droughts happen even to the best hitters.
Ramirez hit 39 home runs last season but had two long stretches without one, 11 games and 18 games.
Everything turned out just fine, and he achieved one of his finest seasons.
Nothing stands in his way for him to do something similar this year.
Those numbers since that three-homer game are ugly, but at least he is showing signs of righting the ship.
Four of those seven hits have come in the past three games, and for the season, “J-Ram” is sporting a respectable .814 OPS and a 123 wRC+.
Fans are eager to see him improve, and he should be able to do so in no time.
