The Cleveland Guardians have been excellent in multiple areas, but the lack of power in the lineup has been an obvious weakness. That is why the front office made it a point to add more pop into this lineup at the trade deadline. The addition of outfielder Jo Adell has been a nice lift for this offense in the second half.
Recently, Adell joined an exclusive company with his home run during Sunday’s win over the Minnesota Twins.
“Jo Adell crushed a 116.8 mph home run on Sunday. That’s Cleveland’s hardest-hit home run under Statcast (2015) and its second-hardest hit ball of any kind […] Adell currently has the hardest-hit ball this season for both the Guardians and Angels. Two players have finished a season with the hardest-hit ball for multiple teams in the same season under Statcast: 2023 Jake Burger in 2023 (White Sox/Marlins) and 2021 Jorge Soler (Royals/Braves), per MLB’s Jason Bernard,” Sarah Langs wrote.
Since joining the Guardians, Adell is slashing .241/.317/.428 with six home runs and 30 RBI across 39 games. The 27-year-old led the team in homers during the month of August with five long balls. He has been a key contributor in this lineup down the stretch of the season.
Adell came into the league with a ton of hype after being drafted in the first round by the Angels in 2017. He didn’t become a full-time player with the Angels until the 2024 season. He posted a breakout campaign when he smacked 37 homers with 98 RBI during the 2025 campaign with the Angels.
The right-handed slugger isn’t going to walk much or hit for a high batting average, but he’ll give you a good source of power. The Guardians have other players who can get on base as long as Adell can continue to drive them in. He has been exactly what the Guardians need right now, and his mammoth home runs have been fun to watch.
The Guardians have Adell under team control until 2028, which is good news for Guardians fans. He figures to remain a mainstay in this lineup as long as he keeps blasting homers and hitting consistently.
Hopefully, Adell can keep doing it over the final few weeks of the regular season.
