Travis Bazzana is the most closely watched prospect in the Cleveland Guardians organization.
The second baseman was selected first overall in the 2024 draft and carries expectations that match his draft position.
His polished hitting ability and strong work ethic have drawn attention throughout the minor leagues, but his path to the majors involves more than raw talent.
According to cleveland.com’s Joe Noga, the key to Bazzana’s development lies in simplifying his focus and removing unnecessary complications from his preparation.
“I think you want him to succeed and the best way to get him to succeed right now is to sort of eliminate all the different variables and have him focus on second base. Just because he’s not immediately going to be the greatest defensive second baseman in the world,” Noga said.
Bazzana posted an .813 OPS across three minor league levels in 2025 despite playing only 84 games.
An oblique injury limited his season and likely delayed what could have been a major league debut.
Cleveland promoted several young players late in the year, including George Valera, C.J. Kayfus, Petey Halpin, and Chase DeLauter, but Bazzana remained in the minors.
If Bazzana secures the second base role heading into 2026, it creates questions about the middle infield configuration.
The Guardians could pursue external options to address their infield needs, but second base appears to be Bazzana’s position to claim during spring training.
