The Cleveland Guardians have one of the best players in all of baseball.
Jose Ramirez joined the team as a young infielder out of the Dominican Republic, and he’s climbed his way up the rankings.
He has a legitimate chance to go down as the greatest position player to ever lace them up for this franchise.
And according to team insider Terry Pluto, that’s exactly what he’s striving for right now:
“He is very interested in having all these Cleveland baseball records. That’s by the way they keep putting it on the screen… He wants all of those records,” Pluto disclosed. “I’ve been told that by several people close to him. And Chris Antonetti told me that was part of when he signed that he wants. He wants to be the greatest Cleveland ball player.”
He would’ve been a perennial top-three MVP candidate if he had played for another team, but that’s just not the type of player he is.
He won’t chase rings or bright lights somewhere else.
If anything, he will look to turn his team into a World Series contender.
Unfortunately for him, the Guardians have failed to surround him with the type of elite supporting cast that a player of his caliber deserves.
Some fans argued that the team needed to do better by him and trade him.
That’s not the kind of competitor he is.
He has a no-trade clause in his contract, and it’s not a coincidence.
Ramirez might not be the loudest trash-talker or the most vocal leader, but he leads by example on and off the field.
He’s become a fan favorite and a pillar of the community for his leadership and the way he consistently brings his A-Game regardless of the context, the opponent, or how the team fares.
And if he continues to walk down this path, there’s no doubt that he will break all the franchise records he’s aiming for.
