Steven Kwan may have already played his last game in a Cleveland Guardians uniform.
While no deal materialized at the 2025 MLB trade deadline, the possibility of a move remains on the table heading into the offseason.
Kwan is under team control for two more years before reaching free agency in 2027.
Insider Joe Noga recently discussed what Cleveland might expect in return if they decide to move their star outfielder.
“It’s going to involve somebody that can help you at the major league level immediately,” Joe Noga, cleveland.com Guardians beat reporter said. “And then maybe at least one top 100 minor league prospect.”
Kwan remains a fan favorite and one of the elite defensive left fielders in baseball.
He has been a steady presence during Cleveland’s recent competitive window.
However, the roster is built around contact hitters, leading to offensive inconsistency throughout the 2025 season.
The Guardians operate with limited financial flexibility and lack access to impactful free agent options to address those needs externally.
Kwan’s salary will rise as he enters his arbitration year, while several younger outfield prospects are advancing through the system.
Those factors could make dealing Kwan a logical decision for an organization balancing immediate competitiveness with long-term roster construction.
The offseason will reveal whether Cleveland commits to that direction.
