Steven Kwan continues to set the standard for defensive excellence in Major League Baseball.
The Cleveland Guardians outfielder was recently named a finalist for the American League Gold Glove Award in left field, positioning himself to capture the honor for a fourth consecutive season.
At 28 years old, Kwan has already established himself as one of the most reliable defenders in the game.
Bleacher Report analyst Zachary D. Rymer recently projected Kwan to win the award over Texas Rangers outfielder Wyatt Langford and Oakland Athletics defender Tyler Soderstrom.
His analysis highlighted the gap between Kwan and his competition in several key defensive metrics.
“Langford and Soderstrom both cleared +10 Defensive Runs Saved, and you have to have extra appreciation for how the latter was able to do so. The A’s drafted Soderstrom as a catcher and he had no experience in left field until this year. That said, this is Kwan’s award to lose. He’s won three straight Gold Gloves, and he still managed to outdo himself by leading all defenders with +22 Defensive Runs Saved this year. He also led outfielders with 13 assists,” Rymer wrote.
Winning a fourth Gold Glove would place Kwan alongside Kenny Lofton as the only outfielders in Cleveland franchise history to reach that milestone.
His defensive dominance has been consistent throughout the 2025 season across multiple statistical categories.
Kwan led all Major League players with +22 Defensive Runs Saved according to FanGraphs data.
Among left fielders, he ranked first in Fielding Run Value at +12 and tied Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Isaac Collins for the top mark in Outs Above Average with +6.
His 13 outfield assists paced the majors, including two critical throws in a single game on June 17 at Oracle Park that secured a 3-2 victory over the San Francisco Giants.
Kwan brings value beyond his glove work through disciplined plate discipline and intelligent baserunning.
His defensive reputation remains his defining trait with elite range and accurate throws that consistently impact game outcomes.
The 2025 Gold Glove Award appears well within reach as he continues building a legacy among baseball’s premier defenders.
