The Cleveland Guardians find themselves at a crossroads returning from the All-Star break, occupying an uncomfortable middle ground between playoff contention and rebuilding.
What seemed like a promising season has turned into a delicate balancing act as the organization weighs its options moving toward the trade deadline.
ESPN insider Buster Olney recently reported that Cleveland is willing to entertain trade discussions for almost anyone on their roster, with only four players considered off limits.
“The Cleveland Guardians are ready to listen to offers for all but four players: third baseman Jose Ramirez, outfielder Steven Kwan and relievers Emmanuel Clase and Cade Smith. Everyone else is available, with the Guardians hoping to get maximum value and find more offense,” Olney said, via Believeland Insider.

Ramirez and Kwan have provided consistent production, combining for a 6.4 WAR this season while the rest of the roster has underperformed.
The Guardians’ offensive struggles have become particularly glaring, ranking near the bottom in OPS and runs scored over the past month.
These struggles have sparked conversations about moving veterans Carlos Santana, Lane Thomas and Jakob Junis.
Even players with longer commitments, such as pitcher Shane Bieber and Paul Sewald, each under contract through 2026, could be traded if the return package accelerates a rebuild.
Cleveland still has an opportunity ahead with upcoming series against the Athletics, Kansas City Royals and Colorado Rockies.
All three opponents are currently below .500, presenting a chance to climb in the AL Wild Card race.
However, any further slide could prompt the front office to pivot toward selling.
The Guardians could be possible opportunists, ready to reshape their core and build toward a younger, more dynamic roster for 2026.
