The Cleveland Guardians ended Saturday with a win and a roster in crisis. Jose Ramirez has a left hamate bone fracture and is headed to the IL. Now the organization is waiting on scan results that will determine the severity of Chase DeLauter’s injury as well.
Mason Horodyski of WEWS compiled the full injury picture from Stephen Vogt’s postgame press conference.
“A list of injury updates from #Guardians manager Stephen Vogt in his postgame press conference: Angel Martínez: left foot contusion, no fracture, day to day. Chase DeLauter: right side rib cage contusion. Getting scanned and should know more Sunday morning. José Ramírez: left hamate fracture,” Horodyski reported.

The Martinez news is the most encouraging item on that list. A left foot contusion with no fracture and a day-to-day designation means the 24-year-old outfielder who leads the team with 11 home runs could potentially return to the lineup quickly. Martinez fouled a ball off his left foot in the bottom of the first inning Saturday and gutted through the at bat before being replaced by Steven Kwan in the third.
DeLauter’s situation is the one carrying the most uncertainty heading into Sunday morning. The 24-year-old right fielder left the game in the first inning after colliding with the right field wall while pursuing a Glyeber Torres leadoff double. He singled to left in his only plate appearance before departing and did not return. A right rib cage contusion that requires scanning could mean anything from a brief absence to a longer IL stint, depending on what the images reveal, and the Guardians will have a clearer picture before Sunday’s series finale against Detroit.
What is already clear is that DeLauter has been one of the most productive hitters on this roster in 2026. He is batting .263 with seven home runs, 34 RBI, and a .745 OPS across 240 at bats in 66 games. His projected full season line of 16 home runs, 77 RBI, and 142 hits reflects a player who has taken a genuine developmental leap in his first full big league season. Losing him for any significant stretch on top of the Ramirez IL stint would fundamentally alter the offensive profile of a team that has already been struggling to score runs in critical situations.
DeLauter’s scan results are expected Sunday morning. The Guardians and their fans will be watching closely.
