The Cleveland Guardians don’t have that much firepower on offense right now.
That’s why they need to make the most of every minor edge they get every day.
With that in mind, fan account Guardians Prospective took to social media to make a strong plea.
The account urged Stephen Vogt to stop pinch-hitting for C.J. Kayfus against left-handed pitchers.
As he pointed out, he’s fared quite well against southpaws in the minors.
Kayfus posted a .250 average with a 1.021 OPS in 12 at-bats against lefties in 2023.
He followed that with a .345 average and a .925 OPS in 79 at-bats in 2024.
Then, right before getting called up this season, he was dominating southpaws with a .280 AVG with an .899 OPS in 75 at-bats.
Please stop pinch hitting for Kayfus vs LHP!
Career splits vs LHP in the minor leagues:
2025 – .280 AVG / .899 OPS (75 AB)
2024 – .345 AVG / .925 OPS (79 AB)
2023 – .250 AVG / 1.021 OPS (12 AB)— Guardians Prospective (@CleGuardPro) September 13, 2025
Vogt is an old-school manager.
He doesn’t want lefties against lefties.
Of course, there’s a long history of that being the right approach.
That stubbornness also cost Kyle Manzardo for most of the season, even though he did well enough against left-handed pitchers as well.
Kayfus isn’t the most experienced player, and the Guardians might be just trying to protect him and take things slowly with him; that makes sense.
Still, he’s been a big offensive boost for the team when he’s been out there.
More importantly, he needs to get more experience in that type of situation to keep getting better for this team.
