In late April, Cleveland Guardians prospect Juan Brito had surgery to repair a torn ligament in his thumb and was given an 8-12-week timeline to return.
He returned on June 12, playing a handful of games in the Arizona Complex League (ACL) before rejoining the Triple-A Columbus roster on June 25.
He was back fighting to win a roster spot in the majors when the injury bug bit him again.
“No break in the bad news department this week for the Guardians as second base prospect Juan Brito injures himself trying to beat out a groundball in the 1st inning today for Columbus. Brito was replaced in the game by Milan Tolentino,” Guardians Prospective posted on X.

It has the look of a lower-leg injury, perhaps a hamstring or quad strain.
Fans will need to wait on the organization’s injury report, or an update, but it’s looking like something that could send him back to the injured list.
In recent days, there has been some talk about Brito being an option to play against lefties in right field in addition to his contributions at second base.
Those plans will have to wait, though.
It would be a shame if he has to miss significant time again just 10 games after completing a successful return from his thumb surgery.
For now, the organization remains hopeful.
Brito has had another excellent season despite the injury-related interruptions, with a 112 wRC+, four home runs and four stolen bases.
He had a 115 wRC+ and a whopping 61 extra-base hits last year.
Stay tuned, because there could be an update soon.
