The Cleveland Guardians are known for producing and developing pitchers.
They are excellent at identifying talent, acquiring it, and nurturing it, giving these hurlers all the tools to succeed and become effective major leaguers.
During spring training, they held an exciting competition for spots on the pitching staff.
While lefty Doug Nikhazy couldn’t lock up one of them after being shelled in his last outing against the Los Angeles Dodgers, he certainly made a strong impression in Cactus League play.
Forget the 7.27 ERA, as it can be misleading due to the small sample size.
He entered that last game against the Dodgers with a perfect 0.00 ERA in seven innings and had Guardians officials thinking long and hard about whether to carry him on the roster or not.
That outing made the call much easier for them, but they knew it would be a matter of time before Nikhazy forced their hand at some point.
It’s happening now: according to team insider Guardians Prospective, Cleveland is calling up Nikhazy on Friday.
“Cleveland #Guardians are promoting LHP prospect Doug Nikhazy from Triple-A Columbus Friday before the team begins their three game series vs the Red Sox. Nikhazy will be working out of the pen. When he sees the mound it will be for his MLB debut,” he wrote on X.

Nikhazy has worked hard over the years for this moment.
He managed to dramatically improve his iffy control and command in the 2024 campaign and posted a solid 2.98 ERA between Double-A and Triple-A, in 123.2 innings.
He opened the 2025 campaign with the Columbus Clippers in Triple-A and delivered a 3.44 ERA in 18.1 frames, with 22 punchouts.
He is more than prepared for a bullpen role, and even more than that in due time.
For now, he will have a home in relief and help the Guardians get important outs.
