The Cleveland Guardians were one strike away from ending a nine-game losing streak.
However, Emmanuel Clase threw a wild pitch that catcher Bo Naylor should have stopped, allowing the Detroit Tigers to tie the game in the top of the ninth inning.
The moment was so deflating that Cleveland allowed six more runs in the top of the 10th and lost 7-2.

The Guardians are 40-48, 15.5 games behind the Tigers in what is shaping up to be one of the worst collapses in franchise history.
In fact, the 10 straight losses are close to the most in Cleveland history.
It could become its worst streak ever if the team doesn’t show something soon.
“At 10 games, this ties the third-longest losing streak in club history for Cleveland. It’s the first time they’ve lost 10 in a row since 2008. The 1929/2009/2012 teams lost 11 in a row. The 1931 team lost 12 in a row,” Guardians analyst Justin Lada posted on X.

Once again, the offense couldn’t show at least minimal support for what was, before the 10th inning, another excellent game from the pitching staff.
Gavin Williams tossed six scoreless frames, and Hunter Gaddis and Erik Sabrowski successfully took the game to Clase in the ninth.
The closer hit Spencer Torkelson with a pitch, and pinch-runner Zack McKinstry stole second and advanced to third on a groundout.
From there, he scored on the wild pitch when the batter was in a 1-2 count with two outs.
Detroit battered Cade Smith in the top of the 10th, and the rest was history.
Cleveland can’t score, and until that changes, it has no business being mentioned among the American League contenders.
