There isn’t a hotter team in the league than the Cleveland Guardians at the moment. One day after notching an impressive come-from-behind victory, they beat the Detroit Tigers 3-1 on Thursday afternoon. Not only did they secure a sweep, but they also locked up their sixth consecutive victory. No MLB squad has a longer current streak.
Joey Cantillo shut down the Tigers’ offense for 5.2 innings, allowing just three hits and walking three while striking out six and lowering his season ERA to a rock-solid 3.05.
Cleveland is now 30-22 and became the third American League organization to reach 30 wins in the 2026 campaign. The Tampa Bay Rays and the New York Yankees were the first ones to hit that milestone.

The Guardians took the lead in the top of the third, and the action started with two outs. Brayan Rocchio doubled and then scored after another two-bagger, this time by Daniel Schneemann. Jose Ramirez came through with an RBI single to give Cleveland a 2-0 lead against Casey Mize and Detroit.
Catcher Patrick Bailey hit his second home run of the season, and first with the Guardians, in the top of the eighth frame. The Guardians were now up 3-0.
After Cantillo came short of a quality start by just one out, Matt Festa completed that sixth inning with a strikeout, not before he conceded a hit. Shawn Armstrong then got the first two outs in the seventh, with two punchouts, and Tim Herrin earned the third one.
Manager Stephen Vogt decided to keep Herrin on the mound to open the eighth frame, and Dillon Dingler immediately homered off him to make things 3-1. The left-hander struck out Riley Greene for the first out and then gave way to Codi Heuer, who got the remaining two of the inning.
With closer Cade Smith having been used a lot in recent days, Vogt turned to Hunter Gaddis for the save, and the right-hander delivered with a scoreless ninth and two punchouts.
The Guardians will now visit Philadelphia for a three-game set against the Phillies over the weekend. They will try to extend their already impressive winning streak.
