Cleveland Guardians star José Ramírez is once again being recognized as the best at what he does.
In ESPN’s latest positional rankings compiled by Buster Olney, Ramírez was ranked No. 1 among all third basemen entering the 2026 season. The top spot is another reminder of just how consistently elite he has been.
Olney highlighted one particular area that separates Ramírez from the pack.
“There’s long been a debate about whether there is such a thing as clutch, and we’re not going to pretend to know the answer to the larger question. But it’s indisputable that Ramirez has been a more productive hitter with runners in scoring position over the last two years,” Olney wrote.
That production in key moments has become a defining trait of Ramírez’s game. While the concept of “clutch” can be debated, the numbers are not. When runners are on base and the pressure rises, Ramírez has consistently delivered.
Beyond situational hitting, Ramírez continues to provide a complete skill set. He brings power, speed, plate discipline, and durability to the lineup, all while playing strong defense at third base. Few players combine that level of consistency with high-impact performance year after year.
For the Guardians, his ranking at No. 1 underscores how valuable he remains to the franchise. As the organization focuses on developing young talent and improving the offense, Ramírez continues to set the standard.
Individual rankings do not win games, but they reflect respect across the league. And once again, José Ramírez sits at the very top of his position.
