On Sunday, Cleveland Guardians shortstop Brayan Rocchio went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI as his team played to a 12-12 draw with the Milwaukee Brewers.
It wasn’t just an isolated great day for Rocchio. He has been excellent in Cactus League play and looks like a breakout candidate after a subpar season at the plate last year.
The talented shortstop is 6-for-12 right now in spring training after Sunday’s affair.
The most impressive thing about that is that four of those six hits have gone for extra bases.
He is hitting the ball harder than ever after spending the offseason lifting weights and working on his physique.
On Sunday, Rocchio hit a run-scoring double that was 107.6 mph off the bat.

For reference, his max exit velocity last year in MLB was 108.1 mph.
You can almost feel that Rocchio’s physical transformation will lead to more power, and to better offensive production overall, even if it’s still ridiculously early.
He was an excellent fielder last year, so much so that he was among the finalists for the AL Gold Glove at shortstop.
His offensive output was, for lack of a better word, disappointing.
His OPS was a horrible .614, and he hit just eight home runs.
The postseason gave us a better, more productive Rocchio with a .906 OPS, two doubles, and a homer in 10 games.
It looks like Guardians fans who asked for playoffs Rocchio in 2025 could potentially get their wish.
There is a long way to go before we can say Rocchio is an above-average offensive shortstop.
However, he is sure as hot as he has ever been and might finally be ready for that long-awaited breakout.
