The city of Cleveland got some incredibly sad news on Saturday.
A city icon, Jim Donovan, passed away, breaking the hearts of thousands of Cleveland Browns fans and those whom he impacted with his talent and charisma over the years.
Donovan, a beloved sportscaster who was the voice of the Browns for more than two decades, was more than just a football play-by-play caller: over his long career in sports, he covered big-time swimming and soccer events and was also a renowned news anchor.
He also provided hockey and basketball coverage in his beginnings.
The Cleveland Guardians, always in touch with the city’s reality and events, sent their condolences after learning about the loss of the legendary Browns voice.
“We join the rest of the Cleveland community in mourning the loss of Cleveland media member, friend to many, and long-time voice of the @Browns, Jim Donovan,” they posted on X.

The Guardians just had one of their best seasons in recent memory.
One can’t help but think that Donovan, who had been fighting against a terrible disease for a long time, would have been proud of what they accomplished as a franchise this year.
The tweet shows the Guardians’ class and touch, and the responses show how loved Donovan was even among baseball fans.
It’s a sad day in Cleveland sports, as the city lost a true legend of the booth.
He will be deeply missed, as he was a big part of a huge generation of Browns and Cleveland sports fans.
