The Cleveland Guardians rotation are one of the best teams in the American League.
All you have to do is take a look at the MLB standings for proof.
Their rotation has long been considered their weakest link, though, especially after since Shane Bieber has been out virtually the whole year.
Triston McKenzie, supposed to be the 1B to Bieber’s 1A, is in Triple-A trying to gain consistency.
Logan Allen has been up and down, Carlos Carrasco is on the injured list, Xzavion Curry was waived, and rookie Joey Cantillo hasn’t been good to this point.
Yet you would be amazed to learn that the unit is slowly starting to settle down and it couldn’t be coming at a better time.
Right now, the unit is comprised of Tanner Bibee, Gavin Williams, Ben Lively, Matthew Boyd, and Alex Cobb.
Yes, Bibee has allowed five and four earned runs in his last two outings, but before that, he had a 2.08 ERA in his previous four starts.
He also has a 3.65 ERA for the year and is the closest thing the Guardians have to an ace.
Ben Lively allowed six runs in his last outing, but had a 3.68 ERA in the eight turns prior to that and boasts a solid 3.92 mark for the season as a whole.
Williams, Boyd and Cobb all had to recover from injuries this year, but they are rounding into form.
Williams has surrendered just six runs in his last three games, including a seven-inning, one-run masterpiece on Monday.
Cobb returned from the injured list this past weekend with six strong frames, and Boyd has a brilliant 2.38 ERA in 22.2 innings already.
Starting pitching depth remains an issue, but the current Guardians starters are finally finding their footing and that’s excellent news.
