The Cleveland Guardians have been the best team in the AL Central this season, with an 8-3 record.
So far, pitching, offense, baserunning, and defense have been very competitive and the team has shown few flaws.
The pitching, however, and not surprisingly, has earned rave reviews.
The starters have been very solid and it wasn’t just Shane Bieber: Tanner Bibee has a 3.86 ERA and 13 strikeouts, Triston McKenzie tossed 5.2 scoreless innings on Monday, and even Carlos Carrasco has a respectable 4.50 ERA.
However, the strongest unit has been the bullpen.
The relievers entered play on Tuesday with the lowest ERA in baseball, which is no small feat considering the fact they are dealing with some injuries there.
“MLB – Best ERA by Pitching Unit Entering 4/9/2024 (S = Starters R = Relievers): 1. CLE (R): 1.18 ERA; 2. DET (R): 1.38; 3. BOS (R): 1.45; 4. BOS (S): 1.53; 5. KCR (S): 1.60; 6. MIN (R): 1.71; 7. BAL (R): 2.15; 8. NYY (R): 2.59; 9. ATL (R): 2.68; 10. CLE (S): 2.70,” Cleveland Stats tweeted.

If you consider starting and relief corps around the league, the Guards’ bullpen has the best ERA of all.
Tyler Beede, Emmanuel Clase, Hunter Gaddis, Nick Sandlin, and Cade Smith all have a perfect 0.00 ERA; and Tim Herrin is at 2.08.
Eli Morgan and Scott Barlow are the only two relievers actually struggling, and they are good enough to right the ship in no time.
Despite missing Trevor Stephan and other key arms, Cleveland’s bullpen is the best in the league so far.
