The Cleveland Guardians were supposed to play on Monday against the Cincinnati Reds at the start of a new series. Fans at Great American Ballpark, however, will have to wait until Tuesday, as the weather just wouldn’t allow a baseball game to be played on Monday night.
The team announced that Monday’s matchup was rained out. There will be a doubleheader tomorrow, with Slade Cecconi starting the first game at 1:40 pm ET and Gavin Williams taking the ball for the nightcap at 7:10 pm ET.
Tonight’s Reds-Guardians game has been postponed and will be made up as the first game of a split doubleheader on Tuesday, July 28 at 1:40 PM.

The Reds are going to start Chase Burns, originally slated to go on Monday night, for the matinee. They will use an opener for the night game.
According to Cleveland.com, the first game will air on Guardians TV, WTAM 1100 AM, and the Guardians Radio Network. The second one will be available on Guardians TV, WTAM 1100 AM, WMMS 100.7 FM, and the Guardians Radio Network.
The Guardians are currently reeling, coming off five consecutive losses: two against the Minnesota Twins and three in Tampa Bay against the Rays. They scored just three runs in the entire series vs. the Rays, all in one game.
Cleveland is 54-53 and is getting dangerously close to .500. Oddly enough, the team is 0-5 since superstar Jose Ramirez came back from a fractured hamate bone on his left hand.
Manager Stephen Vogt hopes that the Reds series can represent a new beginning for his team. Cleveland can’t let the Chicago White Sox run away with the division, and that’s exactly what is happening at the moment.
Fans, analysts, and other members of the media all agree that Cleveland needs some deadline additions if they want to stay competitive and maximize their opportunity to be relevant in 2026. They have a solid but inexperienced roster in place, so unless they add some veteran firepower before August 3, streaks like these are to be expected.
Tuesday’s games will give the Guardians a better idea of where they currently are, just a few days before the deadline comes. In any case, they aren’t expected to be sellers.
