The Cleveland Guardians aren’t the type of team that will break the bank for a free agent.
If anything, they’re the type of team that usually looks to part with their star players before they become too expensive.
Nevertheless, Carlos Baerga and Cleveland sports personality Always Positive J believe the organization could change that approach this offseason.
Talking on the “Carlos Baerga Show,” they predicted that the Guardians could make a run at one particular player.
“You mean future Guardian [Kyle Schwarber]?” APJ said.

Of course, there are more than enough reasons to go after a player of Schwarber’s caliber.
The Philadelphia Phillies DH is having the best season of his 11-year career, on track for his first 50-homer campaign.
The All-Star has established himself as a legitimate MVP candidate in the National League, as he’s tied with Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani at 43 home runs and has the highest OPS of his career (.944).
That’s a great way to close out a contract.
Then again, that’s also why it’s difficult to envision the Guardians making a successful run at him.
While he’s not likely to get a long-term contract at 32 years old, and will most likely have to settle for a shorter deal, he’s still going to land a big payday.
More than that, teams like the Boston Red Sox and Phillies will most likely try to sign him, and unless the Guardians make a World Series run, the Ohio native may choose a bigger market or a team more willing to spend to go all the way.
