To say that this season has been a roller coaster for the Cleveland Guardians would be a massive understatement.
Stephen Vogt’s team entered the season with high hopes and expectations, and they got off to a somewhat decent start to the campaign.
Then, a dreadful month of June changed everything.
They went 9-16 and looked dead in the water.
Fast forward to today, and they’re pretty much alive in the playoff race.
As pointed out by Gage on X, the Guardians had just a 5.6% chance to make the playoffs on July 6, and now, those odds have skyrocketed all the way to 27.4%.
Guardians were at 5.6% chance to make playoffs on July 6.
Have skyrocketed to 5x that on August 9.

The Guardians have one of the easiest schedules to close out the season, and they’re most definitely making the most of it.
They’ve gone 21-7 since July 7, and they’re 7-1 in August.
The Guardians are currently riding a five-game winning streak, and that’s despite watching Jose Ramirez and Steven Kwan go through the worst slump of the season during that stretch.
Also, they lost Emmanuel Clase, potentially for the season, because of his alleged involvement in a sports betting scandal.
Even so, they’ve fared just as well without their star closer.
The Guardians have now closed the gap between them and the first-place Detroit Tigers to just five games, which is the closest they’ve ever been since late May.
So, while they looked poised to make a run at the final AL Wild Card spot, they now have a legitimate chance to make the playoffs as AL Central Division winners instead.
