The Cleveland Guardians have a lot of young, impactful talent either at the bigs or in the upper minors.
Players like Chase DeLauter, Johnathan Rodriguez, Juan Brito, and George Valera have the potential to be called up and make a similar impact as the Kyle Manzardos, Brayan Rocchios, Tyler Freemans, and Cade Smiths of the world.
However, if we go a little bit further down the minor league ladder, we will find an impressive pitcher who could be one of the game’s top young prospects in no time.
His name is Matt Wilkinson, he goes by the nickname “Tugboat,” and he is very, very talented.
That’s pretty much everything you need to know.
“He leads the Carolina League in IP, SO, ERA, and WHIP! Matt Wilkinson joins IT to discuss being @MiLB player of the month,” Intentional Talk tweeted.

Wilkinson was recently named the MiLB Pitcher of the Month for his extraordinary April performances.
As the tweet states, “Tugboat” led the Carolina League (Single-A level) in a myriad of pitching categories, most notably innings pitched, strikeouts, ERA, and WHIP, at the moment of posting the tweet.
The numbers are remarkable: in 25.2 frames, he owns a 0.35 ERA (!) and a 0.66 WHIP.
Wilkinson has struck out an amazing 46 hitters in those 25.2 innings, against nine walks.
In case you were wondering, those 46 punchouts represent 16.13 per nine innings, which is astounding to say the least.
He is a 6-foot-1, 270-pound left-hander who was drafted in the tenth round of the 2023 draft by Cleveland.
He could be one of those hidden gems, and even though he is still a couple of years away from the majors, the future seems to be bright for him.
