The Cleveland Guardians need to find some help on offense.
They couldn’t get much going at the plate for most of the season, and that wound up coming back to haunt them when it mattered most.
However, the team should be all set on the mound.
Manager Stephen Vogt used a six-man rotation to close the season, and it worked wonders, with multiple pitchers showing that they were up to the task and more than ready to embrace a bigger role.
With that in mind, MLB analyst Scott White is predicting that Gavin Williams could be in for a huge year in 2026.
“No pitcher issued more walks in 2025 than Williams, and he was fortunate to have a 3.06 ERA considering, as all the advanced numbers show. But he was markedly improved in the second half — putting together a 2.18 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 10.0 K/9 — and was particularly dominant over his final five starts, which could signal a breakout for a former top prospect still in the early stages of his career,” White wrote.
The Guardians have one of the best pitching staffs in baseball, and they have always taken pride in their ability to develop players.
Williams is not a finished product.
He showed glimpses of greatness this season, and he can be a consistent hurler who could be the No. 2 option on a contending team if given the opportunity.
Of course, he needs to stay healthy and work on his command.
But judging by the way he closed 2025, there’s no reason to believe that he can’t keep up this ascending trajectory and be even better next season.
