The Cleveland Guardians are a very good team.
However, they do have some flaws.
Even if they didn’t, the best teams can always be improved.
That’s why, despite a logjam in the middle of the infield, insider R.J. Anderson believes the Guardians could add an AL champion to the mix.
“While [Bo] Bichette may still be processing the World Series loss, the [Toronto] Blue Jays front office and others around the league now have all the reason to dig in and figure out if and how he can fit into their plans. What’s the book on him, good and bad? And just where might he land, and for how much? The teams who received the least production from shortstop this season either have a strong internal candidate (Detroit Tigers), probably won’t spend the money (Cleveland Guardians, Milwaukee Brewers), or may have hang-ups about the defense (New York Yankees),” Anderson wrote.
Bichette looked poised to play for the Blue Jays for most of his career.
But now that the young star might be available as a free agent, there’s no reason the Guardians shouldn’t be interested.
Granted, the team already has plenty of options at shortstop and second base.
Then again, it’s easy to make a case for Bichette being better than Brayan Rocchio and Gabriel Arias, given that he’s arguably a more complete player who can excel on defense while providing an offensive spark.
If everything goes well, the Guardians could have him at shortstop while top prospect Travis Bazzana takes over at second base for years to come.
Of course, the Guardians are not the only team keeping tabs on Bichette.
He’s a very talented player who may need a change of scenery and some time to get back to full strength coming off a knee injury.
