The Cleveland Guardians have always had plenty of patience with Daniel Espino.
The young pitching prospect is one of the most talented players in the farm system, but he has a long injury history.
That’s why alarms sounded again when the news broke that the organization made a big decision with Espino in the Arizona Fall League.
Fortunately, it’s reportedly not because of any health-related issue.
“Cleveland Guardians RHP prospect Daniel Espino has been removed from the Arizona Fall League. I’m told it’s not injury related and that he is fine but wasn’t able to ascertain anything further at this time,” Guardians Prospective wrote on X.

Espino has pitched just one minor league game in the past three seasons, so it was encouraging to see him on the mound and dominating in the AFL.
The team has yet to disclose the reason he’s being shut down, but maybe it’s simply making sure not to push him too far right now.
A first-round pick in the 2019 MLB Draft, Espino is thought to have superstar potential, so it’s wise to err on the side of caution.
He still has to do a lot of work to get back to where his body needs to be, and there’s no point in overworking him at this point.
Espino will continue to be one of the main talking points when discussing the team’s farm system.
He has several hurdles to clear before being on the MLB radar, but if he manages to avoid another setback or major injury, he might finally fulfill his destiny and help the Guardians sooner rather than later.
