The Cleveland Guardians have been very active in the past few days making roster moves.
They are not trying to reinvent the wheel: they are just making sure to give manager Stephen Vogt a fresh, physically fit roster for every game.
The Guards are in the middle of a rough stretch of games with little time to rest.
Pitchers are being overworked, which is why we have seen minor league arms such as Doug Nikhazy, Kolby Allard, Cody Bolton, and several others get the call in recent days.
Now, it’s Vince Velazquez’s turn, but there are several other roster moves worth discussing.
“Guardians moves: Joey Cantillo recalled from Triple-A Columbus. Paul Sewald to the 15-day IL (right shoulder strain). Vince Velasquez selected from Columbus. Cody Bolton optioned to Columbus. Shane Bieber transferred to the 60-day IL, making space on the 40-man roster,” Guardians insider Tim Stebbins posted on X.

Cantillo, who has been excellent in his new relief role in Cleveland, returns after a couple of days in Triple-A.
Sewald has been diagnosed with a right shoulder strain and there is still no timetable for his return.
The main name here is, without a doubt, Bieber.
When Cleveland didn’t place him on the 60-day injured list to open the year, it paved the way for a potential return before June.
Now that he has been moved to the 60-day list to make room for Velazquez on the 40-man roster, a return in May is not in the cards anymore.
There is no setback here, though: Bieber’s rehab is going smoothly and he could be an option for Cleveland in early June.
His upcoming return will give the rotation a much-needed boost, but he still has hurdles to clear.
