The Cleveland Guardians have always taken pride in their farm system.
Most small-market teams need to focus on that because they won’t lure many superstars as free agents.
With the Guardians also usually a financially savvy team, they often rely on player development to stay competitive.
That’s why the MLB Draft is always such a big time of the year for the organization and the fans.
With that in mind, ESPN analyst Kiley McDaniel predicted their potential selection in next month’s event, naming high school shortstop prospect Tate Southisene.
“I think the Guardians will be in on what’s left of the upside prep position player crop along with being opportunistic if a college player … falls this far,” McDaniel wrote.
Southisene excelled at Basic High School in Nevada, and he already knows what it’s like to get selected, as his older brother Ty Southisene got a $1 million signing bonus when the Chicago Cubs selected him in the fourth round of the 2024 MLB Draft.
Though Tate Southisene isn’t considered the best infield prospect or the best prep shortstop in his class, he’s turned plenty of heads with his plate discipline and patience as a young player, and he also impresses with his power.
The Guardians have a long history of finding and developing stellar infielders, so it’s hard to think of a better organization to play for if you’re Tate Southisene.
The two-day event will take place on July 13-14 during All-Star Weekend in Atlanta.
