The Cleveland Guardians, at 63-42, have the best record in the American League as of Monday afternoon.
Even with that being the case, the whole league knows they need to add multiple pitchers, specifically starters.
The numbers don’t lie: they rank 24th out of 30 MLB teams with a 4.56 ERA from their starting pitchers, so they obviously need help.
They could also use a shortstop and an outfielder, but those aren’t as pressing as the hole they have in their rotation.
Guardians insider Hayden Grove highlighted that Cleveland has the second-best record in MLB.
However, he also pointed out that of the five best squads in the league, the Guards have been the only one that hasn’t made any deadline deals.
“Best records in MLB: 1. Phillies (Multiple moves), 2. Guardians (No moves), 3. Orioles (Multiple moves), 4. Dodgers (Multiple moves), 5. Yankees (Multiple moves). There are still over 24 hours until the deadline, but a message would be sent if things stay this way…” he tweeted.

The Guardians have managed to build one of the best farm systems in the league, but a lot of patience is required.
Not just patient, but also suppressing the urge to sacrifice some of those prospects for win-now pieces.
The Guardians, however, have a unique opportunity in front of them.
They can make the jump from an excellent team to a World Series-caliber one with the acquisition of at least one top starter.
Now it’s the time to deal from their surplus of infield prospects in the minors, plus other pieces, to bring in starting pitching help.
They still have some time.
