Cleveland Guardians infielders are on a bad injury streak at the moment.
This week, it was revealed that Triple-A prospect Juan Brito, a future option at the keystone, underwent surgery to repair a ligament in his thumb and will miss between two and three months.
On Saturday, Gabriel Arias had to leave the Guardians’ second game of the doubleheader against the Boston Red Sox with an injury.
He was replaced by Will Wilson in the top of the seventh inning.
You could see he was in a considerable amount of pain throughout the game.
After the loss, manager Stephen Vogt addressed Arias’ situation and revealed the ailment he was dealing with.
“Just given the doubleheader, the weather took him out of caution. We’ll know more in the morning, but it seems like it’s left hip irritation,” Vogt said according to Cleveland Guardians on SI.
The team hopes it’s nothing major.
Otherwise, they will need to rely on Wilson for as long as Arias is out.
Wilson was promoted this weekend after a few weeks of productive play in Triple-A.
As for Arias, he has been surprisingly good for the Guardians this year, finally breaking out after a few failed attempts through the years.
After Saturday’s game, he is slashing a healthy .272/.318/.481 with a .799 OPS.
Basically, he has provided above-average offensive production for Cleveland.
If there are no surprises, Arias should be back with the Guardians very soon as it doesn’t sound like an overly serious issue.
It’s always wise to wait for an official announcement, though.
