The Cleveland Guardians pulled off a trade for pitching help on Tuesday afternoon, a few hours before the deadline.
No, it’s not Blake Snell.
No, it’s not Jordan Hicks, who was recently demoted to the bullpen, either.
It’s Alex Cobb.
The name might not be that explosive or exciting for most fans, but a healthy Cobb is good enough to make the Guardians rotation.
“Guardians are sending the Giants pitching prospect Jacob Bresnahan and a player to be named later, per source,” Guards insider Zack Meisel tweeted.

Cobb hasn’t pitched at the MLB level this year while recovering from a shoulder injury.
He also suffered a hip ailment recently and had a blister pop up.
All things considered, he should be ready to pitch for the Guardians at some point in August.
It’s important to point out that Cobb posted a 3.87 ERA in 151.1 innings last year in San Francisco, a perfectly solid line that makes his acquisition worthwhile as long as Cleveland recognizes that he shouldn’t be their only starter acquired on Tuesday.
They are already down Shane Bieber, Triston McKenzie, and Logan Allen: Tanner Bibee and Ben Lively have done an amazing job at the top of the rotation, but they need another solid, consistent, and reliable arm.
Cobb is 36 years old: even though he has a rock-solid 3.85 ERA for his career, he can’t be counted on to perform like the top-of-the-rotation arm the team needs.
He can, however, be a serviceable option at the back of the rotation.
Will Cobb be the only trade addition the Guardians make?
We will find out in a matter of hours.
